How do you play the dice game craps?

As a beginner, it’s often easy to get intimidated. Think of craps as placing bets on the numbers which are rolled on a pair of dice. One player rolls the dice, and anyone can bet on the outcome.

Shooting Craps Rules

Shooting craps rules are as follows:

Play The Pass Line

During the come-out roll (first roll), bets are placed on the pass line.

The pass line is the most common type of bet in craps, and a new round can’t start until there has been a bet placed on the pass.

For a pass line bet, if the roll of the dice is a:

  • 7 or 11, you win
  • 2, 3, or 12, you lose.

In online craps, if another number gets rolled, that number becomes the point number, and the shooter will keep rolling.

  • You lose by the shooter rolling a 7 before they roll the point number.
  • But, if the point number is rolled again before a 7 does, then you win.

Another option is a don’t pass bet. This means that you are essentially betting against everyone else.

  • If the shooter rolls a 7 or 11, you lose, but they win. If they roll a 2 or 3, they lose, but you win.
  • If there is a point number, then rolling a 7 before the point number means you win. If the point number comes first, you lose.

Play The Point

In craps online, if the player didn’t win or lose on the come-out roll, the point is the number they rolled.

It can either be a 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, or 4. The shooter keeps rolling the dice. If they roll a point number again, you win. If they roll a 7 instead, you lose. If this occurs, every pass line bet stays on the table until the point number is rolled to win, or a 7 rolled to lose.

As an example, if the shooter rolls a 4, that becomes the point number. They must then roll another 4 for a pass line bet to win. If they roll a 7, a pass line bet loses. The shooter continues rolling until they roll either of these numbers.

Play starts over during online craps once either the point number or a 7 is rolled. If the shooter rolls the point number, they continue rolling the dice. If it’s a 7, someone else takes over the roll of the dice.

Place a Come Bet

If the come-out roll has taken place, you can place a ‘come bet.’ It works very similarly to a pass bet. You win by the shooter rolling a 7 or 11. But if they roll a 2, 3, or 12, you lose.

You can also place a don’t come bet, where you lose if the shooter rolls a point number. If they roll a 7, you win.

Odds Bets

You can also make odds bets in craps online. This is a side bet while waiting for the shooter to roll a point number or 7. You can only place odds bet after the come-out roll, and only if you have already made a line or come bet.

You essentially are betting that the shooter will roll the point number instead of a 7. There is no house edge, and it is completely random.

How to play craps online?

Once you have a solid understanding of craps rules which is played in a real casino, then you can also play craps online as the rules are the same.

Playing at a real casino gives you the full excitement of a crowd for every roll of the dice, and lets you play with others, But online craps also has many benefits.

In a physical casino, you place your bet and toss the dice. With online gambling, you click a button and roll virtual dice instead. A number is generated by an RNG (Random Number Generator), and it is mandatory for all games at any certified and reliable online casino. Unlike in a real casino, with online gambling, it’s virtually impossible to cheat.

How to win at craps?

Like most casino games, craps has a house edge. But with the right craps strategy, it’s possible to improve your chances of winning.

Play The Safest Bets On The Table

If you want to have fun and increase your chance to win, you should stick to placing safe bets which have the smallest house edge. This gives you the highest chance to win.

Take Pass Bets

While craps online has a large amount of betting possibilities, safe bets are simple and straightforward. Perhaps the most popular bet in craps is the pass line bet. It has a low house edge of only 1.41% and pays even money. Don’t place a pass line bet after the come-out roll, as the value decreases.

Take Don’t Pass Bets

While a pass line bet offers a good house edge for craps online, a don't pass bet provides an even lower house edge of only 1.36% and also pays even money. It works in the opposite way to the pass bet.

It is also one of the safest bets you can make. However, most players generally will make a pass line bet. If you make a don’t pass bet, you will lose when they win and win when they lose, which may cause friction.
